Small business in AHS: Dan Wilkins capturing new angles of the game

Dan Wilkins, junior, is a sports broadcaster for Audubon High School and other nearby schools. He records and does commentary on sporting events throughout the school year.

Dan’s interest in announcing and broadcasting started when he was around 10. He was at the league fields watching friends play baseball and did not like how the kids from the clubhouse announced the players’ names as they went up to bat. Dan says he felt like he wanted to have a turn and put his own spin on the job. He asked one of the parents in charge if he could announce the game too, and that was all it took; he fell in love with it and his passion for broadcasting began.

One of the first bookings he had was in 2019 for Audubon Day where he emcee the event promoting the vendors.

Dan says he loves doing what he does, “Live streaming gives me a voice when generally I’m not that vocal.  When I’m behind the camera I can express myself and be me. To me, it means being able to express myself freely and giving myself a platform that other people can use to help with their future goals.”
